Cherry Extendable Dining Table with Hidden On-Board Storage for Leaves
We have a rather small dining room in our house, so we wanted a table that would not overtake the room but would also be suitable for larger gatherings. This 72” X 40” solid cherry dining table can be extended to 96” to seat up to ten. A leaf, supported by a slide-out brace and specially designed brass catch, can be added to each end. When not in use, the extension leaves are stored under the table in a secret drop-down tray that is hidden between the rails. The table top has gentle curves along the long edges that continue through the extension leaves when in place. The base of the table has an organic look with upward sweeping vertical supports that are grounded in solid feet. The stretcher is set close to the floor and anchored at each end with wedged through tenons. The tenon ends are left proud of the angled surface that they protrude from and rounded over for a unique look that only other woodworkers will probably ever notice. But that’s okay.
