Tea Box with Monkey Fist Closure
The striking figure was carried around the box by with hand cut through dovetails in a way to hide the end grain. This was done by mindfully varying the tail widths to hide or complement end grain figure visually. Even so exposed dovetails ad interest and the intent was for the joinery to be seen on close inspection. The rope closure is a black cobra weave and hemp lashing that encloses a red monkey fist.
