Leather Work Tool Chest
Aside from woodworking I also enjoy doing a fair amount of leather work. One similarity between the two is caring for and organizing the tools. Prior to doing any serious woodwork, I carried my leather working tools in a soft tool bag which made immediately finding the necessary tool difficult and frustrating. During this time I started making dovetail boxes and as my woodworking skills grew I decided to build something more practical for my leather work. This tool chest was my first attempt at making something with drawers and my first attempt at half-blind dovetails. Much of the wood used was leftover or scrap I had in my garage shop. I used Red Oak for the case, Birdseye Maple for the drawer sides and scrap Padauk for the Accents. Aside from the dovetails being a bit backwards and the fact that it’s heavy I absolutely love it and always look forward to using it. No more fishing around for the right tool or having all my tools dumped out on the coffee table.
