Set of Side Chairs
I guess this chair centers around the coopered seat. The first time I did a seat like this was after seeing a similar wood seat on a chair in your Biennial Design Book. (1977) It was made by woodworker Robert March. I thought the way the tenons were formed in the corners of the seat was interesting.
At some point I decided to use my plane, spokeshave, and drawknife (they all needed sharpening) instead of the shaper and router. The only sanding was done between coats of finishing.
The seat is made up of nine pieces. Each has three biscuits and is glued with expoxy.
The walnut seat has an oil finish and the white oak has a soap flake finish.
