Chessboard for the family
I recently completed this chessboard to replace another one I made years ago. Over the years, my woodworking skills have improved and there were a few things on the original one that I just didn’t like.
I designed this using naturally contrasting woods — mahogany and maple — for the main board and oak for the sides. I added a few details like simple corner miter inlays and banding. Now when I play chess with my daughters, I can enjoy the game and only see my chess blunders, not my earlier woodworking ones.
