Our daughter ask if I could make the kids a bunk bed but with different size “bunks”. Well not wanting to disappoint her, I responded that sure I could. (Little did she know that Grandpa hadn’t made anything like this before. But that never stopped me in the past.)

I gathered up several of my plans, researched the web like we all do, and after pouring over them for hours, tossed them all out and designed my own. 

The entire frame is constructed from maple and several cuss words, a little glue and a few screws. the ladder was a complete custom design as I couldn’t find anything that even came close to what I needed. So necessity is the mother of invention, Right?

After completion and installing, it became readily apparent that “additional” stiffening members were needed to withstand the three grandkids. Apparently they were viewing this new piece of furniture as a playground jungle-jim.

All in all, it was a fun build and our daughter really like it. Now if I can just get her away from looking at one of those 1000000000 Plan books that I have in my library.
