Not Your Typical Game Table
My wife played backgammon years ago and I was a chess player so I endeavoured to design a table. I’m a hobby furniture builder and I use poplar / trembling aspen frequently from my property as prototype wood; a little labour but cheap wood source. I went with laminated curved legs and wanted to design it so the game pieces could be stored in the table. I also took this table on to develop skills in veneer work which was required for the chess and backgammon boards using walnut and cherry veneer with Wenge accents. This included cutting thin veneer from aspen to create the pattern on the table top. Lastly I created to crib boards embedded in the top as my family are big card players.
Finished with brush on lacquer.
Enjoy.
