Arts and Crafts Rocking Chair
This is a rocking chair I built in a class at Palo Alto, CA Adult School, taught by Marcus Miller and Mary Ann Carmack. The plans were designed by Mike Pekovich and purchased from Fine Woodworking {I slightly modified the plans in a few areas on my chair, i.e. the shape of the arms, etc.}. Kathleen Koenig, upholstery teacher at the school helped us upholster our seats with the fabric of our choice.
I used a highly figured cherry board from our local lumberyard, accented by South American mahogany corbels and front rail. For the seat I chose a very soft red-dyed cowhide, purchased at Napa Hide Co. I sanded to 400grit, and finished with Danish oil, then amber shellac prior to glue-up.
