Yin Yang Console Table
This console table design came from a simple sketch of two intersecting pieces of wood – one curved and the other straight – thus the Yin/Yang name. The challenge was to keep the construction as simple as possible and use all non-glue joinery. I wanted the entire piece to easily breakdown by removing a single wedge tenon. The curved leg uses bent lamination (each half of the curved leg has 7, 1/8” veneers, each having reversed compound curves). To mount the granite top and as well as add lateral and vertical strength, I epoxied a ½” x ½” x 30”metal bar along the underside of the granite slab which drops into the stopped-dado atop each leg.
