Firewood Holder
I wanted to design a firewood holder to complement the Craftsman style of furniture I designed and built for my den. I chose Cherry to match the wood I used in my other pieces and made the Ipe proud of the Cherry to absorb the wear and tear of piling on split logs.

The piece looks great. I want to try to replicate. What are the approximate dimensions you used? How did you attach the top and the base? Could you add more photos?
My apologies for not getting back sooner, but 2020 was a crazy year. Thanks for the compliment.
The dimensions are: 32"w x 12"h x 14"d with the bottom of upper arches approximately 5 1/2" off. the floor.
I created a V using 2 pieces of cherry or Ipe with the Ipe being wider so that it is about 1/2" proud of the cherry. The pieces are joined with a full width and so visible floating tenon at the tip of the V. Each tenon was pegged with a a full thickness dowel visible on each arch except the end arches which I did not make full thickness. 2 templates to cut the arches, one for the upper and one for the legs. Softened all the edges with a router and a block plane for the ends. The lower arches were double thickness, gluing up two pieces of cherry.
I glued up one piece of cherry to each piece of Ipe.
Once all the arches were made, I took 2 pairs of upper arches (cherry glued to Ipe) and the two lower arches and ripped a flat area on each. Used biscuits to glue the uppers to the lowers, as all the force is straight downward. Further the minimal lateral forces are supported by the adjacent arches which have not been flattened and protrude downward beyond the adjacent joint.
Once the two key arches with legs were glued up I attached the arches together with glue. I felt that with a large glue surface area it would be enough and after two years of heavy use, its held up well.
With the raised Ipe taking all the force of firewood landing on it, there is hardly a mark visible.
Thank you for the update and additional photos! The piece is very unique and looks fantastic. I still need to build mine, but will definitely work off of your design.
