Shepherd Runabout Shenanigans 1/2 Hull
For over 50 years Shepherd Boatworks manufactured exquisite watercraft at their Niagara on the Lake plant. Many of the boats were built from Honduras Mahogany and Shenanigans is a prime example. She also demonstrates the family’s commitment to excellence. Old growth Honduras Mahogany with its wonderful rich and deep lustre is in short supply. For this model rift cut African Sapele is used for the deck and topsides. It captures the colour and lustre of Mahogany. It is laminated from 0.5” lifts cut to follow the sweep of the sheer and the chine. Canadian Curly Maple at the waterline offers a sense of water splashing by the hull with quarter sawn South American Lacewood below to capturing the gold colour of the hull and reinforcing the cadence. The finish is a nitrocellulose lacquer over shellac and tung oil. Finally, the model is protected with carnauba wax. The mounting board is North American Walnut veneer edged with solid Nogal from South America. The inlay is Sapele, Anigre and Maple. The finish is tung oil protected with carnauba wax. The rudder and strut are copper. The prop and cutwater are brass. The latter is electroplated chrome with a lacquer topcoat.
