Cherry & Spalted Maple End Table
This cherry and spalted maple end table, also called “wormy maple” by some, was inspired by Rachel Senkler who asked her father, Tom Schram, to make one for her that would really stand out. The maple had wonderful figuring and grain but worm holes were everywhere and Schram first had to fill them. After the first finish coat was on, he mixed water putty with black analine dye into a thick paste and plugged all of them. The top and bottom shelves are each made of two glued up panels surrounded by cherry mitered corners. The sides came from the same piece of maple making up the top and shelf. Each table leg is curved on two sides and adds to the interest of the cherry and maple contrast. Photographer. Tom Schram
