The star of this piece is a once twisted, split, and otherwise unruly piece of 8/4 walnut orphaned and set aside by my local mill, destined for the burn pile. This 72″ pew-inspired walnut bench features pinned and wedged mortise and tenon and bridle joints. My scrub plane (and arms, shoulders, and back!) got quite a workout uncovering the elegant curves for the seat back hidden in this “worthless” slab of walnut. The result is a sturdy and comfortable bench placed in my client’s kitchen where it is never without something or someone needing a place to sit. A Thomas Fugate Furniture Original.
