“Phi”-ber Cabinet
I call this the “Phi”-ber Cabinet b/c my wife asked me to make her a cabinet to hold the wool fiber she spins into yarn and b/c I used the Golden Mean, represented by the Greek letter φ (“phi”), throughout. The heights of the drawer fronts and drawer spacing correspond to certain numbers in the Fibonnaci Series which is related to φ.
The maple corner posts were cut from bent, tapered laminations which were then temporarily supported by an external scaffolding to ensure dimensional accuracy and facilitate marking of the mortises into which the web frames were epoxied.
The walnut drawer fronts are sloped and were belt sanded to match the curve of the front, while the plywood sides and back were warped then nailed into place.
Spray finish using CAB clear lacquer followed by paste wax.
