Slab Table – a Family Affair!
I always wanted to make a Slab Table, so I seized the opportunity to mill a fallen Red Oak from my Family’s original property. The Slab was both crowned and cupped; I spent a month flattening it with my Grandfather’s Stanley #5 Hand Plane and winding sticks. My Sister-in-law designed the Cantilever Base; my Sister produced the Layout; and my Brother had it fabricated out of 2-inch square steel tubing at a local shop. The Slab shows my first-ever Butterfly Splines, out of Cocobolo. I finished it with a few coats of Osmo Poly-X Oil. Every time I sit at the Table, I think of its journey through the hands of my Family Members.
