Padauk and Rosewood Box
When I made this box I only had a starter set of small lathe tools. But there small size were well suited to this box. It was turned on a small Grizzly 12 inch by 18 inch mini-lathe. That is about as big a lathe as I can accommodate in my small shop. If you look at Kennard’s boxes he adds texturing and other features which I was not quite ready to take on. The box I made was challenge enough. I did get a number of compliments about the nice fit of the lid and overall design from some of my fellow woodworkers. The wood came from a box of exotic wood that my wife very thoughtfully got for me some years before I got around to making this box. As soon as I acquired the lathe I knew I wanted to make use of some of this wood. I have since made use of the other varieties such as purple heart along with the remaining rosewood to make a bud vase.
