Bimah (Torah Reading Table)
A few years ago I offered to build anything for our local congregation and last year our Rabbi asked me to make a bimah, a Torah Reading Table, large enough to open the scrolls and ‘have room’ and not be so crowded. During the Torah service, a member of the congregation stands on one of the sides with the Rabbi on the other and calls people up for blessings prior to the passage being read. He also has a printed copy of the Torah in a book necessitating a flat surface. I thought drawers with tops would be the most elegant solution. Blum undermount slides work perfectly. The bimah is now in a temporary location where services are being held prior to the new building being completed sometime in the next year.
