Box on Stand

The rectilinear sides of the box hide more contoured details on the inside. The box and base are ash, while the lid is cherry with an ebony pull and hand carved detail. Finished with shellac and an oil / wax mixture. The base was ebonized with General Finished water-based dye and stain.
All of the ash came from logs that were cut from a tree that was taken down. Boards were split and milled using handtools. The base and textured insides were worked with curved scrapers until I got surfaces that seemed pleasing.
