Japanese-Inspired Wall Bench
This bench is definitely something special, with its unique design, and fun angles, and crisp joinery. This build was super fun but definitely some challenges with the mortise placement to get that angle for the backrest just right.
And let’s talk about the ease at which this leans against the wall. I had to make this bench sturdy enough to hold people sitting on it (obviously) but didn’t want it to feel and look too heavy. That’s why I chose to make this out of hard maple – you get the sturdiness of the hardwood and the lightness of the color, double whammy! Plus, those slats in the bench, backrest, and shelves offer some relief too.
