Comfy footstool
I inherited an oak easy chair with large finger joints and full bottom runners that is quite comfortable. It needed a matching footstool, so this is designed in the same style. With the large bottom runners acting like skis, you just sit down in the chair, hook your toe under the front apron of the stool and slide it effortlessly into position. I looked at footstool designs, which all had the resting surface level, or parallel to the ground. This is not how the legs arrange themselves when they are facing forward out of an easy chair; they want to hang down at an angle. I made mock ups from cardboard and scrap plywood until I got the height and angle right, then away we went. The top is dished out to conform to the calf, the large radius of the front and rear edges eliminate any tendency to dig in, and the smooth finish makes is it a delight to slide on and off the stool.
