Chess Table
I have made a number of pieces using curly maple (Acer spp.) and have always liked how the grain pattern, especially when finished with oil/varish, can create a 3D wave like effect. Previously all my work with curly maple has been on flat boards. To exaggerate the curly wave pattern all of the legs on this table are curved by steam bending. To emphasis the curves of the legs I sandwiched the curly maple around sapele mahogany (Entandrophragma cylindricum).

Beautiful! I want to try some steam bending. I read an article about somehow adding some chemical to the steam but that chemical is a little toxic so you have to be careful to not breath the fumes. What are the dimensions? And sapele mahogany - isn't the figure incredible? Did you feel "bad" to only be showing the sides and not be showing the figure? Would it bother you if I use your design to come up with my own table - not copy the whole thing - just use it as springboard for what I want to make?
You are welcome to use my design for your project(s). I agree that the sapele mahogany is nice, but for this project I focused on the curly maple. Thanks for you interest. You can view other projects of mine at http://www.woodsmithHHI.com and on Facebook@thewoodsmithofhiltonhead.
