Floating Media Credenza
I built this “floating” media credenza entirely of solid QS cherry. The entire project came out of one tree (a 2 logs set)…allowing me to keep the color and grain matched throughout.
The overall dimensions are 67″ L x 19″D x 28″ T and drawn specifically for this room…so that it would fit neatly below the chair rail and be evenly centered under the TV. The base appears as stout 8/4″members…but finding 10/4 or 8/4 QS stock to color match the case wasn’t happening, so I milled and face glued 4/4 stock to make the 8/4 beams, legs and cross members. They are all mortise and tenoned together. Also, the three interior compartments are sized to accommodate the client’s A/V equipment…the interior partitions do not extend all the way to the back, which allows cables and wiring to come together and exit through a single “port hole” in the back. The case’s back is also solid cherry– the frame’s rails and stiles are 5/8″ thick and the floating panels are 1/4″. There is a single side hung drawer (also cherry) for remotes–riding on QS white oak runners. The three doors are mounted in two tracks, so that the center door can pass to either side.
