Sunflower chest reproduction
The entire chest was built from internet pictures that gave only general exterior dimensions. I am very proud of the finished product and credit the marvelous work of Aspen and Peter.
This sunflower chest (20D x 48W x 39H) was made with ash, white oak and walnut. I followed the procedures outlined by Michael Robbins (FWW #275) for ebonizing the large moldings, split columns, and split eggs. The large moldings were made by gluing two lengths of molding back-to-back producing a large symmetrical profile. The entire chest was finished with polycrylic satin varnish to limit yellowing of the ash. White oak was used for the carved panels.
