Smoked Sapele Wall Unit
The photo of the unfinished column tower was submitted to the customer and approved however was not used in the project. To simplify this project the Smoked Sapele veneer was laminated to a thicker mica backer and then pre-finished with a clear satin finish. All upper column doors are mitered on the vertical side edges to fit tight to the mitered cabinet edges, making the columns appear to be solid. The door and drawer, horizontal underside edges, were beveled back to create the finger pull. These, in-line, horizontal 1.5” openings, architectural reveals, for the finger pull, also created the slot to support the crystal clear starfire glass shelving. All cabinet interiors are Sapele plywood. All exterior panels, doors, drawers and fixed panels have an MDF substrate. My one man shop was commissioned to design and fabricate this 22 ft Sapele unit. Five helpers assisted me in the installation.
