A Book-Matched Cherry Cabinet
The cabinet is made of book-matched cherry. The base is claro walnut, given to Peter by a former student who had a walnut tree in her Oregon backyard. The ginkgo leaves are inlaid gold leaf, under a layer of clear epoxy. Peter gathered real leaves and photographed them hanging from a thread. He converted the photos to black and white in Adobe Photoshop and used Adobe Illustrator to create the full design. The recesses for the leaves were cut using the Shaper Origin. The moon is spalted quilted maple, and the twig is 5,000-year-old bog oak from England.
