A Mahogany Door Carved by Eye
Rob has been a general contractor for over 35 years, all the while dabbling in what he calls “casual door making.” He glues up 10/4 material and rough-carves with a 4-in. grinder with chainsaw teeth. He has developed a light touch in his free-form carving, eyeballing the design as he goes. He doesn’t draw first. On average it takes him 60 working hours to complete a door.
