Craftsman’s Gambit Chess Table
This piece was made while I was at the Center For Furniture Craftsmanship during my nine month comprehensive. I had made furniture before but this was my first (successful) attempt at developing my personal style. The idea for my project came from my father, an avid chess player and one of the main people who encouraged me to pursue my passion professionally. The chess board offset is meant to subvert the expectations of order that chess usually invokes, dripping down the side of the table in a display of my developing skills. It was a challenging project but one of my best so far. I hope to continue creating more pieces to push both my skills as a maker and my creativity as an artist.
