Krenov-inspired wall cabinet
For almost 50 years, I’ve admired the cabinets of James Krenov, and wanted to build one, but thought I lacked the skills. In the fall of 2022, I attended a hand tool workshop with John Cameron at Maine’s Center for Furniture Craftsmanship. That gave me the courage to try. For ease of working, I chose cherry, although its lack of pattern would not have been appealing to JK. I built the coopered door of 7 staves on a form just visible in the photo, and corrected its curvature with the router jig, an inverted version of the one by Bruce Dudman in FWW 306. The case is dowelled, following the procedure by Jim Budlong in FWW 208. Finish is multiple coats of diluted shellac, wiped on and sanded, following the master.
