Ming-Style Table
This table is Gary’s adaptation of a Chinese Ming era serving table, a tiaozhuo. His inspiration came from a larger Ming table done by the late Chris Hall (The Carpentry Way blog) that introduced Gary to the Ming aesthetic. Hall’s combination of Chinese and Japanese joinery took his breath away. Apart from the triple mitered leg/apron joints, humpback stretchers, mitered breadboard ends, and horse hoof feet, Gary was attracted to the challenge of doing nearly all of the joinery with hidden mechanical joints.
