I’ve just completed my final project for the year – a Murphy bed desk featuring a Barn Doors on the face.
The front is equipped with a desk that stays level as it smoothly transitions into the bed position, eliminating the need to totally clear it completely when converting to a bed. Additionally, I incorporated drawers into the desk for added functionality.
The side cabinets are built 24″ wide and I flushed them with the light bar to give them some extra depth for the printer pullout. I have a full door on the top section of the right side built split the left door. The lower section has a drink tray and a pair of locking file cabinets.
I’ve been posting murphy beds using the piston system. I have two that I use, this is the Spring Murphy Bed mechanism version. I like this mechanism, because the frame is steel and I don’t have to build that part of the project. The spring system is also the only one that can be use with that Stay Level desk design. The other just doesn’t have enough room under the bed.

Nice work! Just built a Maple veneer MB with the same spring mechanism. Need to build another in our new house and wondering if you could share more on the desk Stay Level design.
