Shop Cabinet
For years, I had been looking for a sturdy shop cabinet plan for tool storage and, as a subscriber, was taken in by the plan in Issue 307 by Nathaniel Brawley Hill. Nathaniel’s plan called for an overall width of 40 inches; I scaled mine down to 32 inches. The rest of the dimensions—depth, height, and drawer front heights—follow the plan. And because it is all straight lines and square corners, I wanted to use different wood species to enhance the esthetics. The carcass is red oak, with 3 1/2″ tongue and groove wainscoting boards in the side panels. For the drawer fronts, I used clear yellow pine with a 1 1/2-inch strip of walnut centered vertically in the middle. Instead of making my own pulls as the plan suggested, I found some carved red oak pulls online at Van Dykes Restorers.
