2 Lbs of $#!+
Playfully deemed “the most irreverent piece of furniture” in the North Bennet Street School Student/Alumni Show. I built this piece as a personal project. It’s called “2 lbs of $#!+” which is short for “2 lbs of $#!+ in a 1 lb can.” After struggling to fit my clothes in my dresser I had to ask myself ‘do I own too much? Or is it the dresser that isn’t big enough?’ It is a play on the toxicity of fast fashion as my drawers seemed to ooze with overflowing shirts and pants I didn’t wear.
I have tufted rugs for a couple years now and was eager to incorporate it into my furniture making. I use pure wool yarns from New Zealand and accomplish the tufting action with a tufting gun. The carcass is 3/4″ maple ply with 1/4″ maple edge-banding; the drawers are hard maple fronts and poplar sides, bottom.
