Entertainment center
I started this project with a blank piece of paper and a few trees as a replacement to the entertainment center I built 50 years ago in high school shop class. Friends frequently call me with downed trees, and I take them home to my sawmill and wood kiln. For this project, I wanted the cherry cabinets to appear to be floating beneath the walnut table. In reality, there is a walnut beam under the cherry cabinets and 3/8 inch all thread in the upper corners connecting to threaded inserts in the walnut forming an inverted triangle on each end. The all thread is covered with a brass pipe to disguise it.
The drawers in the cherry cabinet are poplar with cherry fronts. The inlaid butterflies are cherry and maple, and were created on my CNC drawn with Vectric V carve
The finish is high gloss lacquer on the walnut and satin lacquer on the cherry cabinet.
