Wade Courson
Castlegar, B.C., Canada
As a fine woodworking student at Selkirk College in Nelson, B.C., Wade was given an assignment to design and build a dovetailed box. He also wanted to learn some elementary techniques of steam bending, so he combined the two techniques into one project that he calls “Fast-Flying Present.” The steam-bent ribbons and bows are aniline dyed and finished with a glossy wipe-on poly, while the box is finished with a matte wipe-on poly. Wade wanted invisible hardware, so he made the brass hinges that simultaneously lift and tilt the lid.
