Boulle Marquetry Basics: Part Two
Watch how to finish a small boulle marquetry project in this excerpt from the Master Techniques of MarquetryIn the second part of a video on boulle marquetry techniques (click to watch part one), Kopf glues up and finishes the panels that he cut from sheets of brass and ebony veneer.
Kopf glues the pieces to a sheet of plywood using epoxy tinted with black dye. Hide glue is the traditional adhesive, but epoxy bonds well to the brass and fills the gaps left by the saw kerf. After pressing the pieces overnight, Kopf cleans up the boulle panels with a card scraper and sandpaper.
Then see how he incorporates the boulle design into a small parquetry cabinet.
