The rubbing-out process turns a good finish into a fine finish. In this video, the last in a series on refinishing, professional finisher Peter Gedrys shows how to rub out a varnish topcoat and then give it a final wax polish.
Gedrys rubs out the finish to level the surface, eliminate blemishes, and tone down varnish’s shiny luster. How was the white dust from the 220 grit sanding removed? Denatured alcohol?
Peter, I enjoyed the entire series! Learned a great deal about the finishing process and found the rub out segment very informative. I like your style as it is all about getting to work, putting the finish on and the steps required to make it warm and polished. Looking forward to more of your videos!
