Tin is Easier to Punch on Drill Press
After reading “Build a Pie Safe” in the January/February 2006 issue (Fine Woodworking #182), I wanted to pass along an easier and faster method for punching tin. Plus, I find my method helps reduce sore wrists and upper arms. First, mount a finish nail in your drill press and add a piece of plywood to the table. Set the drillpress depth stop so that the nail barely punches into the surface of the plywood. To use, make a test punch and adjust the depth stop up or down to produce the look you find most pleasing.
