Sam Maloof: The Lives He Touched
Woodworkers share memories of Sam MaloofWhen the great Sam Maloof passed away in May, we asked you to respond with emails, photos, and memories. We wanted to hear from fellow members of the woodworking community just what Maloof had meant to you. And boy, did we hear.
Throughout all the thoughtful tributes ran a few common themes. Many of you had visited Maloof’s home and studio in Alta Loma, Calif., taken classes with him, or otherwise had some sort of personal contact. Over and over, we read tales of how Maloof had offered personal help — advice, encouragement, or even simply a personal tour or autograph. It brought home to us yet again how much this man was willing to share of himself, and how he never grew too great to help out a fellow craftsman. We’ve chosen a few of the many reminiscences to share with you here. We hope you enjoy them.
