UPDATE: Book Giveaway: Encyclopedia of Woodworking by Alan and Gill Bridgewater
Encyclopedia of Woodworking by Alan and Gill Bridgewater.
New Holland Publishers, 2007.
$29.95; 176pp.
Because this book is British, some of the woodworking terms used and power tool brands shown might be unfamiliar, but there’s enough common information included to make it a useful book. The Encyclopedia of Woodworking is “aimed specifically at both the novice and the keen carpenter who want to develop their skills further” and is broken into 4 parts: Wood, Workshop & Tools, Techniques, and Projects. You might first notice the book is from the UK because it includes some woods that are not widely used in the US and some of the common names are a little different. But you get to learn about different woods, so that’s okay. Then you’ll see some of the different tool brands and woodworking terms used, but the photos and drawings make it easy to understand. Finally, the book includes 20 projects (with both metric and imperial measurements) that anyone can build. Some of the projects include a beginner’s coffee table and mirror, and slightly more ambitious pieces such as a corner cabinet and some chairs.

Please. An encyclopedia that makes more sense printed than on-line.
Sounds like the perfect read for a woodworker .
sounds great. i expect more detail and hand tool use in a British book.
Sounds like a book I could use. At this point in my woodworking Non-career any reference has useful information. Here's hoping.
I'll never turn down a chance to add to my library. Who knows where the next idea will come from? As much as the fundamentals may remain the same, regional influences often bring new and exciting creative inspiration. Add me to the mix and thanks for the opportunity.
What a beautiful looking book.
I love anything free. Especially if it has to do with woodworking! I would love to see what they do over there across the pound!

Thanks for the heads up! I was trying so hard to get the date right - I goofed on the month! It's fixed now.
How can one turn down an opportunity to learn something new? I spend a lot of time reading and would relish the opportunity to read a book from the Brits on how to work wood. This will be like winning the lottery!

A good library can't have to many books. Even if I don't get one this way, it may go on my Christmas list.

I am an untrained woodworker who finds that all the information needed to build furniture can be found on books, magazines and videos. It would be a great asset to have this book in my labrary
Thanks, I always appreciate your reviews.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of woodworking for me has been starting and adding to a library of woodworking books. It combines two things I love to do - read and work wood.
Encyclopedia of Woodworking conjures many cherished memories of youthful enthusiasm…… a confident and captivating motivation to create and be constructive emerges from each of its well written and richly illustrated pages….this is a worthy centre-piece for any home library or workshop collection.
I have enjoyed the Brit slant and terms on woodworking in the past and look forward to taking a good look at this latest reference.
an excellent looking book....thank for the offer of a free copy.

Ed,
Most English authors I've read get around to the point much like Americans. Can't wait to read this book. Please enter my name.
This book looks like it would be an excellent addition to my library. Thank you for the offer.
Eye-catching cover! The give-a-way should be a great sales promo. If variety is the spice of life, then versatility is the spice of a woodworker's life. This book should compliment that versatility. Besides, too many books is like too much fun!
Hi, I would be interested in owning that book.
As a novice wood worker, I have tried building my wife a microwave hutch (not too happy with the results) and finally I just finished a baby gate for my little girl.
After I finish with this project, I am on to building a small Foyer bench for our home and then will try to deliver a baby high chair for my sister who is in her ninth month.
I do not know how I am going to execute the Bench and the Baby high chair, and would love to get more information on how to go from design to final delivery. I have already bought the wood the for both the projects.
I guess reading about the projects in this book will help me decide on, most importantly, how to go about designing the furniture and then deciding on what joinery to use.
If you think I deserve to have it then I think I would love to own it.
Thanks
yay encyclopedia!
