The iconic Irish writer Oscar Wilde is famous for claiming that “life imitates art far more than art imitates life”, but I think for Switzerland-based artist Vincent Kohler, it’s the other way around.
He created this art installation (named “billon”) that shows the resulting cuts of wood that you might end up with after having milled a tree…
I guess it just goes to show how much of a woodworking geek I am… Upon viewing the piece, I instantly started trying to name all of the different cuts of wood… I’d wager a guess that I’m not the only one though. Did anyone else have the same response? How many did you name? …Be honest!
Kohler clearly knows his way around wood though, having used it in a lot of different art installations. Another project called “turnaround” combined the game of baseball with woodturning, blurring the relationship between the two with various baseball-bat themed wood turnings. As interesting looking as they are, I don’t think you would want to hit a baseball with most of them…

So many kinds of baseball bats, haha! They do look pretty cool, though, interesting post. I love the one that is basically a branch on a stick.
