This box makes me happy, just like the last one. There are a lot of “firsts” in it. This is the first time I used white oak and apple in the same piece, the first time I’ve painted the bottom (on the inside of the box) of a box, and the first time I’ve used finger cutouts for lifting off the lids. I think it all came together very well.

Here are a few other things that I like about the box. The quartersawn white oak’s grain is amazing. Not only is there the very cool ray fleck, there are also some shimmery areas that look awesome. I love the oak’s color, too. This particular piece of apple is a great match for it, too. The strong divide between the sap and heart wood is very appealing, and I like that I was able to get a “defect” into each of the lids. The milk paint crackled in a wonderful way. It’s completely natural to boot.
