In this video, he shows how to apply iron-on veneer edging, homemade veneer edging, and 3/4-in. thick solid-wood trim. Also demonstrated is his method for gluing up a mitered edge to hide the unsightly plywood edge.
In his companion videos, Rodriguez demonstrates one more advanced methods for edging plywood with a low-profile V-groove, and shows how to trim the edging flush with the plywood surface.

I use about 1/2 as much glue on my joints and have never, ever had one fail. The trim piece on the front of the shelf provides very little structural integrity, so over doing it with glue really shouldn't be necessary. I also have fewer issues cleaning up squeeze out, which can be big problem if you're going to be staining.
